Coming with an integrated DVD player, LG 32LG40 LCD TV offers great convenience. As you will see from the reviews, it offers a pretty good quality as well. While its black levels dont match those of competing LCD TVs, it does have good color accuracy and an extensive array of picture controls. On the not so bright side, aside from the not so great black levels, it has not so great performance when displaying standard definition (SD) content and its image changes when viewed from an angle (a problem some LCDs have more than others). Its screen has a 720p resolution, bu this really isn’t a problem considering the size of this LCD TV. From the distance you will be watching, you would probably see no extra detail from 1080p anyway. It also has a swiveling stand which will allow you to turn it a bit towards where you’re sitting.

Pros:

  • The embedded DVD player is a nice and useful feature. It is located on the side and is virtually invisible, saving you space.
  • Accurate colors.
  • Plenty of image adjustment controls.
  • Good anti-reflective screen.

Cons:

  • Not so great black levels. Not bad either, but competing LCD TVs perform better when it comes to black levels.
  • SD performance could be better.
  • When viewed from an angle the picture quality is visibly affected.
  • Bottom part of the frame is red, not exactly like Samsung’s red touch of color but at least as annoying if you’re not a fan of colored frames.

LG 32LG40 Reviews

cNet’s In-Depth Review

As usual, cNet has a review about 32LG40 too. And also as usual it’s an in-depth one, putting the LCD TV through some serious testing.

The 32LG40’s picture quality was greatly enhanced by its abundant controls. During calibration we were able to improve color temperature accuracy and grayscale tracking compared with the out-of-the-box performance. This made for realistic flesh tones and shadow detail that tended to look neutral, instead of “pushing” blue or green. Check out the bottom of this blog post for our full picture settings.

User Ratings

No user ratings on Amazon at this point, and they seem to be missing from other sites as well. At the time I am writing this, I was able to find only two user reviews. One is on cNet.com (at the bottom of the expert review) and the other one is on hdtvsolutions.com. They are both positive, the one on cNet praising the picture quality, while pointing out that the colored frame might not be for everyone.
