LG 50PG30 is a 50 inch 1080p plasma TV that offers good quality. As you will see from the reviews, it is not great nor very good, but just good. There are other plasma TVs that offer much better quality, including some from LG, but for its price, LG 50PG30 can be a good choice for the not too pretentious buyer. Though out of the box it’s colors aren’t accurate, after calibrating it, you can improve them. The black levels of LG 50PG30 are average, some of the competing models performing much better in this area. It has good SD processing, enough connectivity options for most home theater setups and a nice design.

Pros:

  • Nice looks
  • Very good standard definition (SD) performance
  • Sufficient connectivity options
  • Enough picture controls to improve its picture quality (calibration being required for this HDTV in order to obtain a better picture). Even after calibration it is still not perfect.

Cons:

  • Poorer blacks than its competitors.
  • Out of the box the colors are not too great.
  • Outperformed by its competitors. If you are looking for very good quality it might not be the best choice.

LG 50PG30 Reviews

cNet has an in-depth review of LG 50PG30 plasma TV. They place this plasma TV model at the middle of the classament, describing it as an average performer.

All told, the LG 50PG30 is a middling performer among 1080p plasmas, exhibiting average black-level performance and inaccurate color decoding and primary colors. We had no problems with its video processing and resolution, and standard-definition performance was among the best we’ve tested, but compared with the competition, the 50PG30’s picture does little else to distinguish itself.

YouReviewElectronics.com also has a review, but much more superficial than the one at cNet. They basically describe in a slightly more elaborate way the specifications of LG 50PG30.

Thanks to its super-fast 180Hz effect video-processing speed in this LG series, action sequences in movies and sports especially car or bike racing are a treat to watch. You can change to cinema, sports or game mode through the AV mode for this mode optimizes the picture according to the video and audio content.
